In 1979, Chrissie Maher OBE shredded hundreds of official documents in Parliament Square, London, and the Plain English Campaign was born. Like me, they battle gobbledegook, jargon and misleading information. In 1990, they launched the Crystal Mark to identify clear communication. My ex-boss once asked me to send them some copy I’d written for a general insurance product. They wrote back to say I didn’t need their help.
