I was invited to co-host a meeting of the PSA UK’s virtual region tonight, where I demonstrated a few tools that speakers can use online, to help engage the audience and embed the learning.
We used Mentimeter to collect questions during the keynote speaker’s talk.
This avoids the need to use the chat box which can be distracting, keeps questions anonymous which can otherwise inhibit people, and shows any patterns as all the questions can be revealed at once with a screenshare, and managed effectively. It also allows people a break from constant attention on the Zoom screen.
Another external tool is Padlet, which we used to capture and rate potential action plans on ‘sticky notes’ on a pinboard, followed by Zoom breakout rooms where small groups could discuss what they were actually going to do, and then feedback to the main group.
I’ll be back in September to demonstrate some more interactive ideas from my Unboring book.
